Tips For Eating Right During Your Upcoming Move

Eating right during a relocation is important for keeping up your energy and staying healthy. However, with the pots and pans packed away and time growing short, many people stop eating healthy meals and turn to unhealthy fast food options. The following tips will help you eat right with minimal dishes on hand.

Eat Complex Carbohydrates

Complex carbs like whole grain breads, oatmeal and pastas all give you energy and help keep you full for a long time. Eating complex carbs before engaging in moving activities can give you the energy you need to keep going. To incorporate complex carbohydrates into your diet, do the following:

  • Eat instant oatmeal for breakfast (this requires only hot water to cook).
  • Keep granola bars and non-sugary cereals on hand for snacks.
  • Buy bread and fixings for making sandwiches on whole grain bread.

Also, keep at least one pot and skillet unpacked and on hand for cooking pastas at night for dinner.

Get Your Protein

Protein is important for building up bones and muscles, which can help keep you strong during your move. Protein also helps you by keeping you full for a long time after it's consumed. Here are a few low-preparation or no-preparation options:

  • Peanut butter on bread
  • Beef jerky
  • Protein bars
  • Yogurt

Find Good Sources of Nutrition Outside the Kitchen

Even if you have healthy snacks to eat while packing boxes, you're still likely to eat out quite a bit during your relocation. Make a list of restaurants in your area that serve healthy meals. Restaurants with salad bars and buffets will give you your choice of foods and will often provide a variety of healthy salad options.

Many grocery stores also serve salads, soups and other relatively healthy meals in a to-go container. Keep your list of healthy restaurants and sources of to-go meals on hand. Try to switch up the restaurants on a daily basis, to prevent you from becoming tired of these options.

Mark Important Kitchen Boxes Clearly

You'll probably be tired of eating out at the same restaurants by the time you get to your new home. To avoid turning to fast food options, make it one of your top priorities to prepare a healthy meal as soon as you've moved in. Clearly label all kitchen boxes and point them out to your moving service, so they'll be able to put them in the right spot when unloading the truck.

Once you've unpacked your kitchen boxes, you'll be able to get back to a normal eating schedule in your new home, so make those boxes as easy to identify as possible. Stick a large orange label on the kitchen boxes, or talk to your moving service to find out what they recommend for keeping your kitchen boxes easy to identify.
